A vacant building along Carman's main drag has been snatched up. The storefront has stood empty for just over a year.

Mayor Bob Mitchell says this is the building that housed Town of Carman and R.M. of Dufferin office staff while the Memorial Hall was being renovated. It was purchased from the previous owners by the Carman-Dufferin Community Development Corporation and that group has now sold it.

"They people that are buying it, they'll will ultimately announce (their plans for the space)...they'll eventually have their announcement as all businesses do."

Mitchell says it's just nice to see that the empty space will soon be filled.

Meantime, Council is looking to close a municipal road in town. Mayor Mitchell says 2nd Street SE dead-ends into the Boyne River.

In order to move the process along, Council held public hearing at its last meeting.

"That's just to sell a piece of the property from the right-of-way," explains Mitchell. He adds the owner of the adjacent land has plans to build a bigger housing development. "He wants to put in either a big duplex or two single-family homes."

The sale still has pass two more approvals from Council before the bid is final.
