Carman Council is looking to make it safer for pedestrians to cross Highway 13 through the centre of town.

"Well we've had some requests over the years to put a corridor on the highway right at CO-OP and so that's come up again from the Carman-Dufferin Safe Communities group," explains Mayor Bob Mitchell, "and so we've put in a request to the (Department of) Highways."

Mitchell adds the town discussed the proposal with the province last week, suggesting the crosswalk could be part of the Highway 13 reconstruction set to take place this summer. He says MIT reps committed to taking a look at the request once it was submitted.

Past requests for a crosswalk at the CO-OP were denied.
