It's been over a year since the public heard much of anything regarding a new personal care home Carman. This past week however has brought significant developments - a multi-municipal organization called Boyne Care Holdings (2016) Inc. has been formed. It's comprised of all five community stakeholders; the Town of Carman and rural municipalities of Dufferin, Grey, Roland and Thompson.

Carman Mayor Bob Mitchell has been appointed Chair of Boyne Care 2016 and explains it is this group that will build and own existing and new facilities under this project. Under the proposal, the new PCH would be constructed behind the current personal care home and connected to the Boyne Lodge and to Boyne Towers to create a larger health care campus. It also includes renovating both floors of the Boyne Lodge and re-purposing about 37 rooms to create places for people to live while waiting for placement into the care home.

He adds members have also gone through the final stage of its presentation to the province, a two-hundred page document outlining all of the data.

"We've been meeting with the RHA to make sure this is done properly and now we're going on Monday to meet in Winnipeg with the Regional Health people and some of the Manitoba Health individuals that oversee capital projects to ensure that we've met all the guidelines that the province sets out."

If all goes well Monday, Mitchell hopes to have an update this spring announcing construction for fall 2017.
