A series of infrastructure projects underway in Carman could be completed by the end of the day Friday.

Mayor Bob Mitchell said sidewalk reconstruction along 1st Street and 2nd Avenue is progressing well and he expects three-quarters of the work will be done by Friday afternoon.

"All of First Street (will) pretty well (be) done. And then the avenue part, he's got one side of it completed and he's got the other side to do but it'll come starting next week I would imagine," he explained.

As for sidewalk construction along Highway 13 through town, Mitchell expects that work to wrap up on Friday as well.

Meantime, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the Highway 13 reconstruction project.

"I spoke with Joe Richardson, our Works and Operations Superintendent, and apparently they've done the mill and overlay on the highway in the R.M. of Dufferin going out to the curves and they're going to do a lift of asphalt starting today," said Mitchell.

He said he fully expects the entire project to wrap up and equipment to move out within the next two weeks.

And while one road construction project is coming to an end, Mitchell said crews got to work on another task Friday morning. He noted a portion of Highway 3 heading west out of town, known as Hospital Road, is getting a facelift.

The road has been graded and mill work is underway. Next, crews will pack down the old asphalt as a base layer with a seal coat scheduled to be applied next year.
