The Carman Community Garden committee has confirmed a town garden will be a reality this summer.

Pat Veldman, spokesperson for the committee, said she received 50 responses to their survey of interest last year.

"Where we're at now is we have our registration forms out, we've got out rules made," said Veldman.

The committee will be applying for grants such as the Co-op Community Spaces and provincial Active Living funding.

Veldman is still waiting on some confirmation from Town of Carman council. The issue left to discuss is whether the plot will be a permanent space for the committee or not. The type of fence and shed for the garden will depend on the permanence of the location.

Plot sizes vary from 15x15ft for $20, 15x30ft for $30, 30x30ft for $40, and 30x60ft for $50 per summer. A twenty dollar deposit is also required, which will be returned once the renter has cleaned their plot in the fall.

"Right now it's just getting the registrations in, having the next meeting with the gardeners, and then we will be out... sectioning out the plots," said Veldman.

Plot registration forms need to be in by March 15, and can be picked up at the Toews office supply shop in Carman.
