A cause has been determined in a garage fire earlier this week at a home on Railway Street. Altona/Rhineland Emergency Services responded to the call just before noon Monday. According to Chief Greg Zimmerman one of the residents was working on a ride on lawnmower in the garage when it caught on fire, causing damage to the garage and slight smoke damage to the house. The damage to the garage is repairable.

The garage fire came less than two weeks after May 20th's apartment complex blaze on 4th Avenue SE which left eight families homeless. That fire was caused by an electrical fault in a bedroom lamp.
