The City of Winkler's Planning Committee has helped formulate a plan to tackle traffic congestion around Tim Hortons.

While a high volume of customers is a positive situation, Winkler Mayor Martin Harder says it has caused issues.

The existing location often creates congestion around the entrance to the drive-through on Memorial Drive, backing up vehicles as far as Main St. The drive-through service can cause congestion especially during peak hours between 6 a.m and 10 a.m.

Together in talks with the owners the idea for a twin drive-through has emerged, which could take another six vehicles off the street.

"They came up with the best solution that is available," Harder says. "We're both trying to resolve a situation that sometimes can be a little hairy around that corner."

Owners Jeff and Linda Doerksen are currently pursuing cost estimates of an additional queuing lane and are in talks with Tim Horton's design team.

The City has agreed to look into prohibiting parking on the North shoulder on the East 100 feet of Memorial Drive on a trial basis.

More information is expected to be available in January.
