Plans have changed for an expansion to the Boyne Regional Library in Carman.

Dale Owen is a member of the Boyne Regional Library Expansion/Renovation Committee. She said the group is now looking at a completely new plan, a scaled-back version of the original $2 million, two-storey project.

"After a year, the fundraising was going a bit slower than we'd hoped so we re-grouped and started looking a one-storey expansion project."

An architectural firm has been hired to come up with a new blueprint and Owen expects those re-drawn plans to be finished in the next few months. She noted that the revised project will look to make the most use out of the library's existing space while maintaining the heritage of the historical building, something the architects are working on in tandem with Heritage Manitoba.

And despite the revised plan for the expansion/renovation, Owen is confident that the committee is sticking to the initial priorities behind the original plan. Those include an expanded children's section, accessibility, and a tech resource centre to help the older generation navigate new devices and technology.

Meantime, Owen doesn't see this new strategy impacting the original project timeline too much. Initially, a groundbreaking was scheduled to take place in 2018 and she thinks that's still a possibility, just a bit later in the year.
