There are a number of changes coming to Lake Minnewasta.

After a public consultation in November, the City of Morden will be adding more signs around the trails to indicate where they're located, plans to add more activities around the lake, a newsletter for the campers, elevation and drainage on some campsites, garbage pick up twice a week, and a new compound which will help reduce algae blooms.

Though the city was not able to implement all the suggestions as not all were feasible, Clare Agnew, Director of Community Services, says the number of suggestions showed the love residents have for the area.

"The activities, the amount of people it brings to our community as well as our local residents just love that we have a beach, a lake, the trail. There are so many positive things and what we were hoping on from the consultation just to get feedback."

There were also concerns about safety when it comes to using watercraft.

"There's a lot of positive feedback about what people like about the lake," says Agnew. "There are certainly concerns about the mixed-use and keeping people safe. We're working on more regulations and doing our checks to make sure people are safe."

Signs are also being implemented to indicate which directions boats are supposed to follow.

Agnew says all these suggestions have proven the lake is a place residents really enjoy and implementing these suggestions will take the lake from good to great.
