In approximately 90 seconds, Winkler small business owner Bentley Dueck lost $25,000.

However, the community is rallying around the local firearms store after thieves smashed through a wall with a truck and made off with thousands of dollars in merchandise.

Because of an oversight in the business insurance, the store was only covered for a fraction of the firearms and ammunition stolen November 27. To help cover the loss, former Dominion Outdoors owner Tomm Penner reached out to Dueck in regards to starting an online fundraiser.

"I felt it personally because I used to own Dominion Outdoors, and a lot of people have told me they want to help," he says.

"Anyone who owns a small business and has experienced theft, they know that feeling where someone has stolen from you... it's literally as if they came up to you and took that money out of your wallet."

Penner notes the store location continues to meet and exceed RCMP building code requirements for a firearms establishment. "They are going above and beyond, the guns are double locked, but these people had a truck, they had crowbars, what can you do?"

Police report thieves crashed through the front wall of Dominion Outdoors in Winkler during the early morning hours of November 27. In total, 35 firearms were taken, mostly handguns. Three suspects fled the scene, though the stolen truck was later recovered outside of Winkler.
