A string of incidents on January 5th, 2017 has ended with a 27-year-old Morden woman behind bars.

"It is nice to see that the deposition came through with a significant sentence to it," said Morden Police Chief Brad Neduzak.

The accused had attempted to rob someone in the victim's car, tried to steal money from a local business, and later the same day tried to rob a store with a table leg.

It all started with the accused, Kimberly Dawn Bjarnason, getting into a vehicle of an unexpecting victim who was in the bank at the moment.

When the victim entered the car the accused demanded money and wrapped a computer cord around her neck. After the suspect had found out she had no money she asked to be driven to a location within Morden, which is where the victim managed to escape and flee on foot.

During their investigation Morden Police viewed surveillance footage from Traveller's Inn, showing the suspect had attempted to empty the cash register in the vendor area but failed to retrieve any.

Then later in the day, Morden Police received a call from the staff at Video Visions saying there was a person in their store with a bandana on her face and holding a table leg, asking for money.

The description given to Officers matched the description of the two prior incidents.

Morden Police was able to arrest the 27-year-old female who admitted to the robberies as well as the attempted theft of cash.

"As a result, she was subsequently charged for those offences and several others and appeared in court February 13th, 2018," said Neduzak.

She was charged with two counts of robbery, mischief under $5000.00, two counts of theft, disguise with intent, two counts of abandoning a child, choke to overcome, kidnapping and assault with a weapon.  Bjarnason appeared in Morden Provincial Court February 13th, 2018 and was convicted of two counts of Robbery, Disguise with Intent and Mischief under $5000.00.

She received a two-year sentence, which will then be followed by three years probation.
