The Morden Corn and Apple Festival has a variety of things to do for a packed weekend of fun. One of the things to do is buy and eat corn. Each and every year the festival brings in a significant amount of corn on the cob for people at the festival.

"We have a local grower here that grows corn right in our region here," said co-chair of the corn committee Roy MacLean. "He's been doing it for the last couple of years now. Over the years we've changed growers, but we have always try and get it grown locally if we can."

MacLean stated the corn the festival gets is naturally sweet and added the better the weather during the growing season the better the corn will taste.

"Right from the very beginning the idea was it's fun and it's free. It's the slogan we still use today," said MacLean, who stated the first festival was held by the Chamber of Commerce. "The forefathers who thought of the idea in the first place, decided that was a great way to bring people to our small community."

He went on to say they've been giving away corn and cider from day one and after a little bit of research he found out the first ever Corn and Apple festival they handed out around 250 cobs of corn. In the festival's 51 year heritage they've now grown to giving away around 24,000 cobs during the weekend, which is about 100 times more than the first year.
