A terrorist hoax will cost a local man nearly $6,000 in fines.

The 52-year-old Morden man pled guilty to public mischief after reporting a terrorist attack during the 2016 Corn & Apple Festival. The week leading up to the festival, Morden Police received information from the accused with specific details about a supposed attack.

As a result, police contacted the National Security Enforcement Section to assist in the investigation. After several interviews and many hours involving resources from several agencies, the accused admitted that the information was not factual.

The accused appeared in Morden Provincial Court November 24th and received a fine of $1300.00 and a period of probation. The accused has also been required to reimburse all police agencies for costs totaling $4,551.00 in the many hours that were spent as a result of the investigation.
