Most farmers are hoping tomorrow's weather forecast for showers in our region materializes.

Conditions have dried up quickly since the May long weekend rainfall.

St. Jean area farmer Gilbert Sabourin planted corn, sunflowers, wheat, oats, canola and soybeans on his fields this year.

"Crops are slowly emerging, but there's a lack of moisture right now. Another inch of rain will really help to get everything else growing out of the ground."

Environment Canada is calling for showers and thunderstorms starting overnight and into Tuesday.

While the dry weather is creating some challenges for crops, it has also kept weeds at bay.

"I guess they're struggling for moisture as well. Our fields have been fairly clean so far," said Sabourin.

The weather system that hit the Red River Valley during the May long weekend dropped about 7/10ths of an inch on Sabourin's fields, but that moisture disappeared quickly.

"You can dig for moisture without getting your fingers dirty right now, so we're due for some more rain, that's for sure."
