The road to PyeongChang goes through Brandon this week as the 2016 Home Hardware Canada Cup takes place at the Keystone Centre.

The men’s and women’s champions will take a step forward in the quest to represent Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea as those teams will earn berths directly into the 2017 Tim Horton's Roar of the Rings in Ottawa. The Ottawa event will decide which teams will represent Canada at the Winter Games.

“We've been working hard to make sure everything was ready and our final obstacle was this week's weather. But we anticipate a great week of curling and a successful event” said co-chair Eric Dickson.

The elite competition also offers a  total prize purse of $140,000.

“We have about 300 volunteers working behind the scenes and we had a great response from curling fans.

Dickson added there's lots happening off the ice and he hopes curling fans stop by and take advantage of all the festivities.

The first draw is on Wednesday morning and the finals take place on Sunday.

The Home Hardware Canada Cup will go on a one-year hiatus in 2017, while the Tim Horton's Roar of the Rings takes place in Ottawa.
