Breakfast clubs at Gretna School and Ecole Parkside School received some financial support from the Curtis Klassen Memorial Fund.

On Monday, $300 was donated to each school for their breakfast program.

Representative for the Curtis Klassen Memorial Fund, Eric Hildebrand, was happy to distribute the funds to Jason Pilkington, Principal at Gretna School and Leanne Braun, Principal at Ecole Parkside School.

"We know there's a need within our community's schools," said Hildebrand. "We thought if we can help in this area that'd be great."

He noted breakfast programs allow students to grab a quick and nutritious snack in the morning before classes start. These programs go a long way to help ensure kids can focus on learning instead of being hungry.

"Some kids are on the bus for a long time so it's a chance for them to get some food before they start," said Gretna School Principal Jason Pilkington.

"We open it up to everybody and it can be because you're feeling a little hungry and sometimes it's because you just want to sit down with a friend and have little bite to eat together," he added.

"So we look at it as a relationship building place as well, but also to support those kids that might be feeling a little hungry after being up early."

The donation was made possible thanks to the successful Curtis Klassen Memorial run and walk event, which bought in just over $11,000 this spring.
