The new reeve for the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin says economic development will be a key priority of his in the next term.

David Carlson captured 376 votes in Wednesday's municipal election to beat out Ron Mihaychuk and Elaine Holodryga.

Carlson said he'll work hard to bring jobs to the area and return prosperity to the municipality.

"It's been a really long time since the Emerson-Franklin area has done really well economically, and I think that if we can attract some business and create jobs and work hard with all of the stakeholders, the business community itself, the people that run our organizations here, and the citizens at-large, I think we're going to do really well."

However, Carlson does expect some challenges ahead.

"Probably with the Border somewhat, there are some challenges there," he said. "We are a very large municipality and there's drainage issues...it's a lot of territory to cover but I'm definitley up for the challenge and whatever comes our way we're ready to meet it."

Elected to Council are Todd Nichols in Ward 1, Brian Grier will represent Ward 2, Orest Kuryk is the new councillor in Ward 3, Tony Dujlovic was elected in Ward 4, and incumbet councillors Brenda Lang and Doug Johnson were re-elected in Ward 6.
