The Winkler Day Care has raised nearly $1,000 for Salem Home.

On Friday the children and staff at the day care held a lemonade and bake sale with hopes of furnishing one room at Salem Home with new blinds, a $300 goal. However, they raised enough to furnish three.

Day care staff say it was touching to see the kids interact with their "grandma and grandpa friends" they visit on a monthly basis. Staff and kids stop by Salem Home every month to visit the residents. The fundraiser was sparked with the help of Access Credit Union's $10 challenge; anyone who requests a $10 Pay it Forward bill receives free money to help someone in the community.

ACU's Rob Unruh explains the challenge began last year, handing out $1,000 in $10 bills, with the only stipulation the funds be used to pay it forward during the month of May, "something they see as useful and impactful in the Pay it Forward spirit."

He reminds residents to share their stories of paying it forward with the official Pay it Forward May hashtag on social media, #PIFMAY
