From its formation in 1977, Decor Cabinets has grown to a vastly successful business celebrating 40 years on Friday.

As thanks for the support from the area and its employees, Decor threw an event offering free food, music, and a chance to tour their facilities.

Decor is owned by President and CEO Larry Dyck and Vice President of Sales and Marketing Stan Pauls.

Dyck remembers when he, his brother, and brother-in-law began the business in a garage back when it was just a way to support his family.

"When we started out it was really about needing a job and trying to provide for my family. When we started the business that was kind of what it was about. Over the years it’s just kind of evolved into something I had never imagined.”"

Over the past 14 years, Decor’s golf tournament fundraiser has raised almost $960,000 for local charities.

Decor sells across Canada and the United States, with 40 percent of sales to the States, five percent here in Manitoba, and 55 percent to the rest of Canada.

Dyck states none of this would have been possible without the diligent work of Decor’s employees.

Decor employs almost 500 people from the area with 40 percent of employees immigrants, who represent almost 30 different countries.

Many of the employees were attracted to the business due to its community-focused atmosphere.

Mick Payne from Dublin, Ireland, is one such example.

"Right from Stan and Larry down to the factory floor everyone has such a great work ethic and respect for each other. The chances you are given here regardless the country you're from or what age you are, it’s just fantastic, I love it, absolutely love, have done since day one."

Dyck and Pauls are optimistic and excited to see what the future holds.
