A locally produced documentary about Mennonite Collegiate Institute (MCI) was shown at the school's annual spring fundraiser Saturday night.

School staff worked in collaboration with Jay Siemens and Nik Enns to create the documentary. Paul Peters, MCI's Director of Student Life, talked about how the idea for the video came about.

"We were talking about how might we continue to tell the story of who MCI was and who MCI is, and who we hope to be," said Peters.

"We've got a guy like Jay Siemens on board who's really passionate about the school, and willing to share his gift, so we took some time with Jay to sort of envision what might this look like," he added.

Peters explained enrolment numbers were also part of the reason for the documentary.

"We have low numbers currently, and that's a reality, we do believe with the low numbers we're still thriving in many ways. We're hoping that grows and, we can continue to gain momentum and continue to fill the doors again, so we want to talk a little bit about what it's been like to be in that challenging season."

For the video, Peters said they contacted alumni from as far back as 70 years to an alumnus who graduated 2 years ago.

The alumni sat down, and talked about what MCI meant to them, and how it has shaped their faith and journey.

"Out of that we're going to sort of tell the story of why is MCI relevant, what makes us relevant, what's the impact we've had, and why do we actually have hope there's going to be an MCI in the future and that we've got an impact to continue to make."

The title of the film is "Strength For Today, Bright Hope For Tomorrow", which Peters said comes from the hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness."

"Music has been a big thing at this school ever since its beginning, so that will thread its way through the documentary, how are we finding strength for right now and finding hope for tomorrow," said Peters.

Wrapping up the documentary will be the alumni and current students singing "Great Is Thy Faithfulness".
