While many lamented the early closure of the Winkler Aquatic Centre this summer, it will allow time for renovations and the addition of multiple new features for next season.

"A lot of people were disappointed, but I think at the end of the day, people will realize had we not, we wouldn't be this far along," Parks and Recreation Director Rick Denison explains.

The long-awaited pool liner replacement is underway, along with new jets and underwater lighting.

"We replaced all our main drains, skimmers, jets, lighting... essentially we wanted to make sure we wouldn't have to start cutting the new liner to replace things down the road," Denison explains.

A climbing wall is also being added to the North side of the deep-end.

The splash pad is receiving a new, non-slip coating as well. The kiddie pool will also nearly double in size.

Good weather has allowed crews to make good headway on the liner installation

Plans also include the addition of a Cabana that will serve food on the premises.

"Our main focus was the liner, but in conjunction with that there was an opportunity for enhancements," Denison says. "Council was able to allocate some dollars and we think that money is going to be well spent."

The pool will be partially filled with water to test the new liner after installation is complete later this fall.
