Eden Health Care Services is tightening security protocols and policies since a service agreement with the Winkler Police ended. In the past Winkler Police assisted staff with uncooperative patients kept for involuntary treatment. However, Winkler Police say there had been concerns since the beginning in terms of liability.

C.E.O. Analyn Einarson explains they are still in discussion with the Province and Southern Health Santé Sud regarding security solutions.

In the mean time, she says, staff have been trained and policies tightened "to make sure all our staff are aware of how to deal with any situation that may arise," Einarson explains, "So there is continued safety for our staff and our patients."

Despite the security challenges, Einarson says mental health sufferers don't deserve the stigma of violence.

"That's not fair," she says, adding there's always potential for issues or violence to arise in any setting of programming and services.

"This discussion of security is just an extra precaution," she says.

Eden was established 50 years ago, and Einarson says in that time they've earned the community's trust, "They trust us to provide good service."
