Eden Foundation is remedying a lack of play space at Enns Courts apartments in Winkler.

Foundation Director of Development Earl Reimer explains the apartments house a number of young families with pre-school children.

"There's really no place for them to engage in creative play," he says. "It's something that's been missing since the construction in the early 90's... this is a big deal for us."

The two Enns Courts buildings are located on Pembina Avenue in Winkler with a total of 38 suites that accommodates a community of people, including those who are on a journey of mental health recovery.

Eden Healthcare Services helps subsidize the apartments for those whom, for a variety of reasons, can't afford rent at market rates or simply need a decent place to live.

Reimer notes recent funding of $7,337 will help create a play space "directly outside the doors."

Construction is expected to begin this summer.

The money is thanks to the Growing Women's Health Campaign organized by the Winkler Shoppers Drug Mart.

Reimer says the project fits nicely with the women's health initiative, "a help for young moms, reduce their stress... and help in the building of community with our young moms."

Community members donated $3,837, matched up to $3,500 by the local store.

"Eden Foundation plays an important role in our community and the proceeds from this year's campaign will go a long way in helping them further that work," store owner Zahid Zehri says.
