By popular demand, the City of Morden has brought back its Facade Improvement Program for 2018.

"City Council is committed to making Morden's downtown sector a prime shopping centre for residents and tourists,'' said Mayor Ken Wiebe. "Updating these facades is a big step in achieving that goal.''

Fringe Salon and Spa used the program last year and Owner Helen Wall said it was great to have the City's support.

"The building used to be a lumber yard and that is what it looked like when we bought it," said Wall. "The first thing that we wanted to change was the way it looked from the outside."

Now celebrating their fifth anniversary Fringe Salon and Spa was able to get a grant to help improve the look of its exterior. Wall said without the grant they probably would have had to scale down their exterior renovation plan.

"It was just a very good experience," said Wall.

This grant will cover 50% of the project to a maximum of $5,000 per property.

This program will be available once again for businesses on large swaths of Stephen St. and North Railway St. in Morden to assist with renovations and updates to their business frontage.

Applications for funding can be made to the City Planner, Martin Sandhurst, who works with the applicant on their submitted design for renovation. Projects will be considered by the committee each month, beginning in February and ending in October, on a first-come-first-served basis. Any applications which were not approved in spring may be considered later on.
