A family, originally from Morden now living in La Salle, posts weekly YouTube videos to a channel known as Bockfive.

Steve and Karen Bock, along with children Andrew, Ethan, and baby Joshua, have decided to capture their family moments on video and share them with the YouTube community.

Known as vlogging, the couple films parts of their day and edits the footage into a weekly ten minute video.

Steve Bock said they wanted a way to remember this time in their lives.

"We are not scrap-bookers, we try to take pictures but always there's stuff that our kids do that we wish we had captured on film, and that we had documented somehow," said Karen.

"We find our kids are growing up so fast, and we need a way to remember what's happening right now in our lives, and so we started creating videos that our friends and family would enjoy watching," added Steve.

Steve Bock says he enjoys creating family-friendly content

A unique part of sharing the content on YouTube is that the Bock family is recognized by people they've never met before.

"It's a lot of fun to have a conversation starter like this, when we're walking through the crowds and all of a sudden someone comes running up to us and says 'hey, you're Bockfive!'"

Karen added they try not to use any footage that would embarrass their children, such as a disagreement.

"We want to make sure people know we're not perfect, even though we're obviously editing our videos and hiding some of those parts. But ya, we want our boys to enjoy them so we make sure that it's content that we kind of feel we have their blessing to use as well," she said.

The Bocks want to show the resolution rather than focusing on the negative aspects of their day. For example, one of the vlogs revolved around finding a way to make a day better after having a difficult morning.

"That's how we try to show the genuine side without showing the boys misbehaving," said Karen.

"There's so much negative stuff on the Internet right now, and so we love creating family-friendly content that will just encourage people when they watch it," added Steve.

The Bocks hope their videos will 'bring a smile' to viewers

The family has also found themselves capturing moments they didn't realize had happened at the time of filming.

"I'll be watching through the edit and all of a sudden there's a really special or cute moment that presents itself.. that's brought a lot of joy to us," said Steve.

Cutting an hour-long footage into a ten minute video is a lot of work, but the Bocks find that the hobby has brought them closer together. Their children enjoy the hobby, with their eldest son, Andrew, taking the camera at times and doing some vlogging of his own.

"He's totally engaged in this, and so I think that's what it's done for our family, it's kind of brought us together around a common hobby...it's a blast."

The Bocks also enjoy connecting with other parents through the YouTube platform, and hopes their videos will continue to spread positivity.
