Moisture continues to be an issue for crops in Southern Manitoba.

According to Manitoba Agriculture, the majority of the Red River Valley has received below 60 percent of normal precipitation since May 1.

"We could definitely use some moisture ... right now we're sitting at approximately 3.5 inches of rain since we started seeding," said Les Felsch of Emerson.

He states the area is quite dry compared to the rest of the province, and has therefore reduced his crop yield expectations for the year.

"On the soybeans it will definitely make a difference. We'll have a yield loss in soybeans for sure, and corn I didn't top-dress nitrogen because it's so dry, I've already reduced my yield expectations there by 20 bushels per acre," he said.

"It's too late for the wheat already," he added.

On the bright side, Felsch said he looks forward to not driving through mud this harvest season.

Felsch also stated because of the dry conditions, disease has not been an issue in his fields this year.
