The Winkler community is mourning the passing of two residents after a fatal accident occurred Friday evening.

On September 8, at approximately 8:50 pm, officers from the Morden and Carman RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Provincial Road 306, five kilometres south of Plum Coulee.

Investigators believe a southbound automobile, being driven by a 20-year-old female from Altona, hit the shoulder of the roadway and over corrected, causing the vehicle to collide head-on with a northbound motorcycle.

The 54-year-old male driver of the motorcycle and his 53-year-old female passenger, both from Winkler, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The female driver of the automobile and her 20-year-old female passenger suffered only minor injuries.

Alcohol is not a factor in the collision and both vehicle occupants were wearing their seatbelts.

Officers from both the Morden and Carman RCMP Detachments along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate.
