Farm Credit Canada offices in Morden and Carman have come together to operate under one roof.

A grand opening was held Thursday of the new 5,000 sq. ft. office at the Terra Point Agribusiness facility located on the Highway 3 corridor between Winkler and Morden.

Barry Watson, FCC Acting Senior VP for Prairie Operations, said the opportunity came about with the growth of the business.

"We've had double-digit growth in the last handful of years and we saw a need to bring our team together...under one hub, probably with the intent of growing staff in the years ahead," he explained. "It made sense to consolodate and have everybody out of one building right in the heart of the area that we're targetting."

The regional office covers the area south to the International Border, west to between Manitou and Killarney, north to about the Trans Canada Highway and then east to the Elm Creek area.

Watson added the new location is also the first in Canada to fully move operations to cellphones with the ability to communicate with customers by way of text.

"It's an acknowledgement that as the generations transition, some of the next generation in ag is probably more comfortable communicating electronically and text messaging is part of that," he said "It opens up those lines of communication more readily and allows us to provide value to our customers."

According to Watson, the hope is that this new location in the busy corridor will invite customers to stop in regularly to learn about the full suite of services offered through FCC.
