Earlier this hockey season the Pembina Valley Female Hawks made a $1022.35 donation to Katie Cares. The money collected was from gate-fee, 50/50 and donations made from two games earlier in the year. A pair of other teams helped raise this money include the Winnipeg Avros and the Westman Wildcats, who were the Hawks opponents those two days.

"It was a great donation. We ourselves, as a hockey family, have been involved in hockey for a number of years,' said Katie Cares Ruth Reimer. "Our son played for the (male) Hawks. So it was a really wonderful donation to get."

Reimer noted money donated will help with its ongoing programs carried out at Katies Cottage. One of the programs is the To-Go Bags for a guest who has a loved one in hospital.

Meanwhile, Hawks assistant coach Shanley Peters stated it's good for the girls on the team to realize the importance of giving back to the community that supports them.

"They were able to present the cheque to Ruth Reimer, so it's nice for them to able to start that at a young age, and understand that giving back is just as important as receiving the support as well,'' said Peters.
