Effective immediately and until further notice, a burning ban is in effect for the Rural Municipality of Morris.

The ban states no person shall light a fire without first obtaining a permit from the municipality.

RM of Morris Fire Chief Trevor Dackow explained conditions are very dry, and there have been 3 fires in the area since Saturday afternoon.

All fires were a result of garbage being burned.

"One was in the Rosenort area and was responded to by Rosenort Fire (Department)," said Dackow, adding two sheds were lost in the fire.

The second was in the Aubigny area and was contained by the homeowner in about 20 minutes.

Dackow noted the third, a grass fire in Lowe Farm, was fairly serious and took place in a shelterbelt. He says firefighters were able get close to the fire and extinguish it relatively quickly thanks to their new skid unit. This fire took about two hours to put out.

No injuries were sustained in any of the fires.

Information regarding burning permits may be obtained from the Municipal Office located at 207 Main Street North, Morris.
