A late night flight from police ended with the arrest of an 18 year-old-male with the teamwork of Winkler and Morden officers.

Winkler Police report officers were on general patrol during the early morning hours of August 2 when a vehicle passed in the opposite direction at a high rate of speed.

As the vehicle passed the officer was able obtain the colour, make and model of the suspect vehicle. However, after making a U-turn the suspect was already a block away. It's estimated the vehicle was traveling approximately 120 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone.

Police pursued the vehicle outside the City of Winkler onto rural gravel roads as the suspect vehicle made multiple attempts to evade police.

At 2:21am, the pursuit ended in the City of Morden as Morden Police blocked the road forcing the driver of the vehicle to come to a stop.

The 18 year old male driver was subsequently arrested for Flight from Police and transported to the Winkler Police Service.

The driver stated he fled from police as he believed his vehicle registration was expired, and he was worried he would lose his license.

After a query of the license plate, police learned that the vehicle registration was in fact valid.

The driver was charged with Flight from Police and served a ticket for Drive Carelessly, an MPI Serious Offence Notice, and was released with a Promise to Appear. The male's vehicle was also seized and towed from the scene.
