The U.S. National Weather Service in Grand Forks, North Dakota is still expecting significant flooding along the Red and Pembina Rivers near the Canada-U.S. border. Meteorologist Amanda Lee says there is still a lot of water that has to move into the Red River between Oslo, Minnesota and the border.

"We did go up there about a week ago and checked out the conditions and there's still a little bit of snow up there, not as much as we were afraid of, but there was still a lot of water, frozen in ditches and fields and stuff. That's going to be the main factor, is the water that's already sitting there, not necessarily in snow form."

Lee says the forecast this week is good with thawing by day and freezing by night which will make for a slower melt. But she notes there is still a lot of water to come down the Pembina River into the Red.

"The areas in the extreme northern valley, Pembina, Walhalla and Neche and those areas, we're still looking at a good 75% chance for Pembina to reach major flood stage."

She says an updated flood forecast will be released Friday.
