The Town of Altona experienced its fourth dryest summer this year since data started being collected in 1949, says Jeremy Kusyk, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada.

He said the Pembina Valley area received roughly 112 millimetres this summer, as opposed to June, July, and August in 2016 with a measurement of 366 millimetres. He noted the average amount of rainfall for the area is 244 millimetres.

Kusyk attributes last year's higher-than-average rainfall to its more active severe weather season, whereas this year, July saw only a handful of storms.
