A fourth candidate has entered the race for the Progressive Conservative nomination in the Borderland riding.

Altona area resident Josh Guenter has been approved by the PC party to seek the nomination.

Guenter was raised on a small farm in the Altona area and feels he carries a lot of the same values that many residents in the riding hold.

"I was raised with those traditional conservative values of personal integrity, hard work, a belief in faith and family and have always felt an obligation and a duty to give back to the community that has given me so much. So, when this opportunity opened up, my wife and I felt that this was a good time to put ourselves forward."

Guenter, who works as a long-haul truck driver, brings a fair amount of political experience to the table. He lived in Ottawa for two years working on Parliament Hill, was a campaign manager for Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen and has worked for Morden-Winkler MLA Cameron Friesen.

As a young parent, Guenter sees affordability for families as a key issue for residents in the constituency and feels it's important to choose elected officials who will stand up for them.

"It is so critical that we elect a conservative who will ensure that there is more money left on the kitchen table of Manitoba families. The people of this riding are working hard to pay down their mortgages, put their kids through school ... and create a better future for themselves and their children and someone needs to go to Winnipeg to be their voice and ensure that government stays small and that taxes stay low and get lower. I think that's a common thread in this riding no matter where you are."

Guenter joins Verna Heinrichs and Jordan Siemens of Altona and Liz Hildebrand of Morden in vying for the Tory nomination in Borderland.

The nomination vote is scheduled for Thursday, April 11 at the Altona Millennium Exhibition Centre.
