Free admission into Riding Mountain National Park has helped to attract more visitors in 2017.

The federal government waived the fee as a way of celebrating Canada 150 and getting more people out to see the beauty of Canada.

“Judging by how busy the beach area has been this summer there is no question more people have come to visit the park” said George Hartlen CAO with Friends of Riding Mountain National Park.

Friends of Riding Mountain National Park is a non-profit organization, committed to increasing awareness and appreciation of the natural and cultural heritage of Riding Mountain National Park. Through innovative programming in partnership with Parks Canada and other like-minded organizations, Friends of Riding Mountain National Park provides educational opportunities aimed at inspiring environmental stewardship.

"We are governed by a board of directors and we generate our own funds. We are open 12 months a year and help with a lot programs and projects in and around the park."

Right now Friends of Riding Mountain National Park is working with the park on a bat monitoring program and zebra mussel issues.

"Riding Mountain is a jewel in Manitoba and is a unique area of the province that many people haven't had a chance to visit" said Hartlen.
