More potholes are forming in the region thanks to the repeated freeze-thaw cycle this winter.

"We get plus temperatures during the daytime and during the night it can go to minus 15, which really aggravates it," says Morden's Public Works Supervisor Les Wieler.

Wieler adds crews continue to repair some of the major potholes, noting once a pothole has formed it can grow rapidly.

He says while the roads are looking better than previous years, there's still a few weeks of freezing and thawing left.

"If it's going to warm up it will likely be a lot easier on the roads," says Wieler.

The repairs do come with a price tag, but Wieler says the more expensive part is patchwork. Patchwork consists of digging up the pothole and refurbishing the base work before installing the permanent patch.
