This past Saturday, the Northlands Parkway Collegiate's Fresh Start program hosted a used book sale at The Bunker in Winkler.

The sale included an excellent variety of books as the students of the Fresh Start program attempted to gather novels that would be new stock to southern Manitoba, while maintaining reasonable pricing.

An organizer of the program, James Driedger, mentioned his appreciation of The Bunker's support.

"They are so accommodating to us. They allow us to use their kitchen, their gym, [their equipment] and they have to put up with noise from us. When I asked Kevin from The Bunker [if we] can run a book sale here and store books here for six months, he's like, 'Absolutely, go for it!' So they are very much on board with whatever we want to try and very supportive of our program as well," said Driedger.

With The Bunker's support, Driedger went on to describe what the Fresh Start program does for students in the community.

"Fresh Start is an off-campus classroom. It's run by Northlands Parkway Collegiate, but we get students from both NPC and GVC, and it's basically for students who, for various reasons, aren't having success in the regular classroom in the high school, so this off campus location kind of provides them with some unique opportunities; it's a more relaxing atmosphere," he said.

The book sale also gave the students the opportunity to obtain a volunteer credit, while also supporting the Winkler Imagination Library with donations.
