A request by a group of parents from Hochfeld school last month will be looked into further by the Garden Valley School Division.

Wanting to see some changes at the village school, parents filled the board room at the January meeting presenting a number of concerns and also offered their own solution.

GVSD Superintendent Todd Monster says as part of a follow up from that, the Education Committee reviewed the presentation and have gone to the board with a recommendation.

"That recommendation is that they (the board) would approve that senior admin would begin to do some research and look at what the various options are, as well as the implications of the requests that were made by the parents," said Monster.

The parents requested that the board change the current grade configuration at the village school from a grade 1 to 8 school to a grade 1 to 6 school, with grades 7 and 8 students then going to Prairie Dale School.

Over the next year, Monster says the senior administration will proceed with gathering information and looking at all the various implications, and what options there are for implementation. He says if they would move ahead with anything, it would only be for the 2021/2022 school year.

Monster says they want to ensure the board has all the information they need to make an informed decision for the future as to what is in the best interest of the students, parents and the community of Hochfeld.
