A 17-year-old male is facing charges of dangerous driving and fleeing from police after a high-speed chase last week.

The hour-long pursuit began in Winkler and ended in Plum Coulee, involving all three Winkler, Morden and Altona police services.

On September 19 shortly before 9:00 p.m, police were on general patrol on Kimberly Road in Winkler when they observed a vehicle driving in a suspicious manner.

Police activated emergency lights in order to conduct a traffic stop, however the suspect vehicle proceeded to flee from police at a high rate of speed.

Police pursued the vehicle beyond city limits as it travelled along Highway 14 onto rural gravel roads.

The chase took police through the villages of Kane and Horndean before ending in Plum Coulee where the vehicle attempted to evade police by driving through backyards and down back lanes.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop and the driver of the vehicle fled on foot across several backyards before being captured and arrested by police.

The male driver, a 17-year-old resident of Plum Coulee, was arrested and transported to the Winkler Police Service station where he was served a Promise to Appear with conditions, an MPI Serious Offence Notice and issued tickets for driving while disqualified and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Police also learned the male was recently charged with impaired driving. The suspect indicated to police he fled because he was suspended from driving. The vehicle was also seized, towed and impounded.

A male passenger, a 20-year-old resident of Winkler, was arrested for a breach of probation, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
