High water in the Rural Municipality of Morris has declined significantly, but not before damaging several roadways and culverts.

The RM's public works crews have been working diligently to replace or fix the roadways that were affected by the high water. A portion of Ouimet Road, located north of Morris just east of Highway 75 and three miles north of Provincial Road 205 has sustained major damage. Culverts underneath the road were washed away due to overland flooding, cutting off motor vehicle access for residents on the other side.

"It is a provincial responsibility, not our responsibility," said Reeve Ralph Groening.  "However ratepayers in that area are being really inconvenienced and have to walk across a two-foot wood pathway they have created. So we are lobbying on their behalf to expedite a quicker response. This is really unfortunate and should not happen and we are disappointed that the infrastructure department is unable to repair the issue."

Groening added this is an emergency situation and that senior citizens should not be expected to cross a wooden pathway for any extended period of time.

Currently, the wooden path is the only access for residents and not even emergency vehicles are able to get through if needed. Senior residents have been seen crossing the pathway carrying groceries and a number of other items.
