A new highway construction season is set to begin Tuesday following the May long weekend.

Kelvin Shuvera, Director of Regional Operations - South Central Region with Manitoba Infrastructure, says this includes finishing up the reconstruction of PTH 13 in Carman and the curve realignment about 5 kilometres north of town.

"We'll see some workers back working on some of the shoulder areas north of Carman, getting some compaction in the roadway," he explained. Shuvera expects the transition to those new lanes to happen later in June.

Work on the portion of the highway that runs through Carman is also planned to wrap up this year.

"There has been some new light signalization that has gone on (and) there remains some more work to do on that," said Shuvera.

He added a lot of the curbing along the stretch of road was done last year and says work to re-install sidewalks in that area will get underway early next week.

Shuvera notes a majority of the paving work required for the project will happen this construction season as only about 20 percent of the job was completed last year.
