A new email scam has surfaced in the region. Reports of a Hitman Scam are filtering into the Altona Police Service where residents, and even businesses, learn they are the target of a Hitman.

The message goes on to say that if the recipient sends the equivalent of $2,500 U.S. in Bitcoin, the sender will cancel the contract and inform the person who hired them. Altona Police say the messages include explicit language, along with poor grammar and several spelling mistakes, and note emails turned over to police have all originated off-shore.

Meantime, complaints of an email Extortion Scam are being reported to Altona Police as well. In this case, the sender tells the recipient that they have video of them watching video on adult web sites and committing lewd acts. The message includes a threat to send out said video to the victim's contact list unless they send money in the form of Bitcoin or other cyber currency.

According to an Altona Police Service news release, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre continues to receive complaints on the Hitman Scam and is advising the public to ignore these e-mails.The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre also recommends anyone receiving these e-mails not to respond. In addition to scamming the victims financially, the organization says these fraudsters also hope to acquire personal information so that they can steal your identity.

Below are two sample scam emails that were turned in to local authorities. They have been edited to remove vulgar language and graphic details. Photos submitted by Altona Police Service.
