The national spotlight was on Winkler this weekend with the celebrations of Hometown Hockey.

The two-day event featured NHL alumni Ed Belfour and Grant Clitsome, The Stanley Cup, a parade of local hockey players, performances by Tyler Del Pino, The Color, and Doc Walker, and more. It ended Sunday evening with the television broadcast of the Winnipeg Jets VS Columbus Blue Jackets game hosted by Ron MacLean and Tara Slone.

Local organizer, Wendy Klassen says it was an amazing weekend. "I think the atmosphere was super fun and energetic, and yes it was very cold, but considering, many people braved it and seemed very happy and excited."

Winkler Mayor Martin Harder says hosting the national event was a wonderful opportunity. "It gives you exposure on the world scene, and again recognizes Winkler for what we do well when we put things on. People recognize it, they want to come here and be a part of it."
