A Senior Climatologist with Environment Canada says it seems like our temperature has been stuck in neutral the last couple of weeks. But David Phillips says that is about to change.

Phillips has released his summer weather outlook for the months of June, July and August and it calls for a hotter than normal season.

"We think June will be warmer than normal but we really think it will display itself in July and August and of course that's when you want it," says Phillips.

The average temperature in May for Steinbach was 11.5 degrees, which is exactly the 30 year normal. Further to that, the last day of frost was on May 19th when the mercury dipped to -2.4 degrees. In an average year, the last frost comes on May 27th.

However, Phillips says southern Manitoba didn't get the heat being felt out west. While places in Saskatchewan and Alberta were seeing temperatures up to 30 degrees, Phillips says the warmest day in Steinbach was 24.3 degrees.

But he says change is coming. In the last two weeks, there have been four days where the temperature climbed above 20 degrees. Phillips says in the next two weeks we could see temperatures exceed that mark every day.

According to Phillips, the big story from May was the lack of rain. He notes with a warmer than normal summer being forecast, having more rain than usual would be a good thing to prevent water shortages.
