Community and Christmas Spirit is abounding at Winkler's Northlands Parkway Collegiate, and students and staff are getting involved in the fun.

The Youth in Philanthropy group has spearheaded a big goal to raise $10,000 in the next two weeks for the Winkler Christmas Cheerboard.

Youth in Philanthropy member Robyn Harder said if they reach $10,000, Principal Tammy MacDonald has pledged to shave her head. Not only that, at $3,000 Vice-Principal Jeff Osinski will shave off his goatee, which he's had for 23 years.

Harder said others have also jumped in with pledges, including the school's hockey team, who've said they would wear their left hockey glove for a full day, after $1,500 raised. And science teacher Joey Elias promised to colour his hair in NPC colours at the $1,000 mark.

Harder said they feel a project and goal like this can bring people together for a better cause, and that's a big reason for doing this.

Until Christmas break Youth in Philanthropy members will be collecting money at school in various ways. If you want to support this cause, Harder notes donations can be dropped off at the NPC office. Receipts will be given out for donations made by cheque.
