The RM of Stanley Council has formed a partnership with Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation (MIT) on a pair of projects to be completed this summer. The two sections of road are on PTH 32 south of Winkler.

One of the segments is at the Schanzenfeld corner and Hespeler Avenue (Road 9N).

"We are putting some turning lanes in on the west side at Road 9N and Highway 32," said Stanley deputy Reeve Peter Froese. "We are also putting some paved shoulders on the east side."

Froese noted they hope the turning lanes and paved shoulders will allow motorists to move out of the way of traffic when trying to make a manoeuvre at the intersection. The estimated cost for this project is around $500,000 with MIT picking up 75% of the cost and the RM picking up the other 25%.

In addition to this project, the Municipality will be working on a commercial access a half mile south of Winkler on the same highway.

"That's another safety thing we are trying to put in there. We are going to be paving the shoulders on both the east and west side of the highway there," said Froese.

He added this project will come with a cost of around $82,000, which will be cost shared between MIT and the RM on a 50/50 basis.

Froese explained it's councils goal to complete both of these projects before the end of summer.
