Some residents in the southern Red River Valley area will likely notice a significant improvment to wireless services by the end of the year. That's because Bell MTS is in the process of consructing a new tower east of Letellier as part of its promise to provide continuous broadband wireless coverage along the Highway 75 transporation corridor from Winnipeg to the U.S. border.

Construction on the tower is expected to be finished this fall and should be fully operational by the end of the year.

The new tower will, not only close gaps along the south end of Highway 75, but will also enhance coverage for customers in and around Letellier, including the community of Dominion City. However, a Bell MTS offical says the new site will not impact existing coverage in the community of Emerson, where cell service can be spotty at times.

The telco also plans to erect two more towers at St. Jean and in Silver Plains.

The projects are part of a Bell MTS 5-year, $1 billion plan to enhance broadband communications throughout the province.
