Morden residents must remain vigilant this winter to avoid potential towing fees.

From October 1 through April 30, cars parked on the street from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. could be towed, and owners fined over $150 plus towing fees.

Rick Paracholski City of Morden By-Law Officer explains Traffic Control 17BL10 and By-Law Enforcement 17BL02 are in place to ease snow removal.

"It's so if we have to do street work, we can do it without having to go back. In the past, the problem was people were leaving their vehicles and blocking the street, and we had to go three or four times to get it done properly... it more than triples your cost that way."

Paracholski clarifies that if there isn't any snow on the ground, the city won't be towing vehicles.

When speaking to residents, Paracholski says they felt it wasn't worth the effort to move their car for a $20 fine, so the city had to increase the fine and implement towing to deter people from parking on the street.
