Winkler's Skylar Klassen captured her first Jr. Dragster title this past weekend in Fargo.

"It was very exciting and she was very excited," said Skylar's mother, Wendy Klassen. "It was definitely a new learning curve, because as you get your first win, you also realized what it feels like to win and after that what it's like to not win. That was a bit of an emotional roller coaster."

Skylar completed her time trials, which lets the racers know how fast she's able to do the eighth mile race in. Once everyone has completed the time trials, they use those times to dictate start times for each individual. After the time trials the racers race one another to advance to the finals, which Skylar was able to do and then won her final race on Saturday to hoist the first place trophy.

Skylar stated with the way her car was running on Saturday she needed to start going on the 'third yellow' to get the best start possible.

"It's very important, because if you go on the green light you are probably going to lose," explained Skylar.

Reaction time also plays a factor in this role in the ability to have a successful race and win. In the finals Skylar had a reaction time of .005 of when the green light had gone on, which helped her win the final race.

Skylar will be able to compete as a Jr. Dragster until she's 18 and as she advances through the age groups so does the max speed allowed. The dragsters can go around 95mph, according to Wendy.
