A 17-year-old man is facing assault with a weapon charges after an incident in Winkler November 3.

Police were dispatched to Domino's Pizza at approximately 2:30 a.m regarding a male who had threatened a female co-worker with a knife.

The male was upset regarding a work related issue, and stabbed the knife into the counter, narrowly missing the female's hand.

Police arrested the male, a resident of Manitou, for assault with a weapon as well as possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was later released with a promise to appear with conditions.

Below is the police report for Oct. 30 - Nov. 5:

October 30 police received a report of a bobcat that had been stolen from a jobsite on Northlands Parkway. The complainant later notified police that he located the bobcat outside of the city and discovered the windows and electronics were smashed. October 31, at approximately 10:00 pm, police were notified of a serious incident that had taken place on Pearl Street regarding a female who had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. During this incident, the female was inside her vehicle when the male reached inside and grabbed her car keys and cell phone and in the process tore off part of her fingernail. The female exited her vehicle in order to run away at which point the male grabbed her and attempted to drag her to his vehicle. The female was able to free herself and hide in a backyard, however, the male found her and again attempted to force her into his truck. The female escaped and ran to her friend’s house where she was able to call for help. The 19-year-old male, a resident of Hochfeld, was arrested for Forcible Confinement, Assault, Mischief Under $5000, and Mischief (Interference with Lawful Use). The male was released the following morning on a Promise to Appear with domestic related conditions.

Police were notified of a suspicious person outside of a residence on Pembina Avenue who appeared to be holding a weapon that could be used to poke people. Police spoke with the suspect outside the residence who informed police that he was surveying land on the property, and had rang the doorbell before beginning but no one had answered. Police spoke with the homeowner and assured her that everything was alright.

Police received a complaint of silly string being sprayed on a vehicle while it was parked at the Winkler Centennial Library. The complainant also stated that silly string had been sprayed on her vehicle on the 21st of September while parked at her residence on Scotia Drive. The silly string did not cause any damage to the vehicle.

A resident of Willow Drive reported that the front of his house had been egged sometime after 10:30pm.

November 2, police were notified by the loss prevention personnel of Superstore of a theft that had taken place regarding a male that fled the store without paying for items that he attempted to conceal. This file is still under investigation.

November 3, at approximately 2:30am, police were dispatched to Domino’s Pizza regarding a male who had threatened a female co-worker and was armed with a knife. The male was upset regarding a work related issue, and stabbed the knife into the counter, narrowly missing the female’s hand. Police arrested the 17 year old male, a resident of Manitou, for Assault with a Weapon and Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose. The male was later released on a Promise to Appear with conditions.

A resident of Townsend Drive reported that his vehicle was “keyed” while parked outside on his driveway over the past few days. The damage consisted of two scratches to the rear driver’s side fender of the vehicle.

November 5, police were advised to be on the lookout for a grey mini-van with no license plates that had departed 7 – Eleven and was being driven by a suspected impaired driver. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver admitted to police that he had consumed liquor that evening and police noted an odor of liquor on the driver’s breath. The driver complied to a demand for a breath sample, the result of which was a “Fail” reading. The male was arrested for Impaired Driving and transported to the Winkler Police Service, where he provided two additional breath samples resulting in readings of 120 mg% and 110 mg%. The 19-year-old male, a resident of Winnipeg, was later released on a Promise to Appear with conditions, and faces charges of Impaired Driving and Drive over .08.

Police were notified of an intoxicated male bothering the patrons of Tim Horton’s and trying to start fights. Police spoke with the subject who was intoxicated but cooperative with police. Winkler Police were dealing with the above-noted matter at this time so the Morden Police Service assisted and provided the male with a ride home.

At approximately 1:10 am, police were notified of a dispute taking place at a residence on 7th Street involving a common-law husband and wife. Police spoke with both parties who advised that no assault had taken place, however they were verbally arguing because the male was refusing to stop hammering pictures to the wall. The female asked that the male leave the residence, and police brought the male to a friend’s house and he agreed to leave the female along for the rest of the night. Police were later notified that the male was constantly phoning the female and refusing to leave her alone. The female did not wish to press charges, however, wanted the male to stop calling her. Police spoke with the male and advised him to stop harassing the female, to which he agreed. At 1:15 pm that same day, police were asked to return to the residence to deal with the same male who had returned home. The female stated that no assault had taken place, however, she wanted the male removed from the home, to which he complied and departed the residence. There are no charges at this time.
